I thought both articles raised interesting points. The article that discussed the underwater cables did raise concerns about someone’s (or country’s) ability to severe underwater cables that connect everyone to the internet. Although it is technically possible for this to happen, I just don’t see it as very likely. Although huge world powers probably have the funds to do it, I don’t think they would have any interest in doing it since they use the internet too. As far as terrorist groups I don’t think they have the funding/equipment to be able to pull something like that off.
The other article discussed hacking groups. For the most part I do not think hacking groups have the right to do what they do. If they have a problem with something in society I think they should use their right to free speech instead of breaking the law and disrupting a tool that almost everyone in the United States uses.
